hey kiddies, im just taken a needed break from writing this 20 page philosophy paper on rene descartes and john locke, its all i can really think of now, but anyhoo i want to hear other people's opinions on this dry DRY subject....
do you feel that there are such a thing as innate ideas; ideas that we are just simply born with?
or do you think we start with a tabula rasa(blank slate) and learn everything through experience?

from my vast knowledge of psychology i know that its mostly full of shit. so i'll say this. i think its a bit of both really. i think there are ideas we're born with and ideas that we gain through experience.
this is much like the question of rather people are natural born killers or learn it from experiences, such as abuse or what not. some people are just born evil. others are made evil from their experiences. its genetics maybe, i don't know.
so there.

I disagree, I think a person begins with a blank slate and grows through their experiences. I don't think people are predetermined to be evil or good from birth but are instead products of their upbringing, intelligence and environment.

Blank slate mostly, although some personality traits can be traced through genetics.

I think people are born with some sense of the what, but have to learn the how and why. Does that make any sense? I doubt it.  |

It's kind of like being born with a talent,For example,Take Wayne Gretzky,He probably started playing hockey at the same age as every other normal person playing hockey would have but we all know he wasen't normal,I say that he was born with that talent.I'm just comparing that situation to this question and it is kind of the same in the sense that some person that is a killer was born with it.You guys said that it also comes from the upbringing,If it was abusive then thats just putting fuel on the fire but I guess it could be since they are getting beatin every day and by the time they get older they just wanna take it out on society.Anyways,I guess it could go both ways since actually changed my mind in the middle of this post.I'm fucken stoned so please bear with my fucked up ass.
