Just rented it last night, thought it was alright, it had some really cool moments, but was also weak in other areas, but i took it for what it's worth, it was scary and fun at the same time.

I actually liked this film, thought it was the closest film to be adapted from Lovecraft. Some of the visual effects were lame, but love the creature FX and some haunting scenes in this film. Finally, Gordon, Yuzna and Paoli return to Lovecraft domain!!!

I've read the short story but I haven't seen the film. I imagine they must have fleshed it out a bit.

You are all better men than me!
I TRIED really hard to complete this movie. I was really looking forward to it. Finally, about halfway through - I gave up. I can't remember the last multi-million dollar film with continuity and edits so bad. It was disappointing to say the least.

Saw it on Sunday. I thought it was great apart from some poor creature effects. Absolutely nothing at all like the short story though. Nothing at all

I thought Dagon was cool and a healthy reminder of just how fantastical horror films used to be before the endless young-teen horrors that we've been submitted to for too long.
Anyone expecting a straight Lovecraft adaption is bound to be disappointed. But I think we expected that from Stuart Gordon anyway!

I don't think they could have done a direct Lovecraft adaption. It's a very short uneventful story.

It certainly did have a lot of hype behind it, and I finally got around to seeing it...and wasn't that impressed. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but just didn't live up to the hype.
A fresh breath though in terms of cool atmosphere and a pretty cool story!

Yeah, those deserted streets, the heavy rainfall and the subtle make-up jobs did create a pleasing atmosphere, and it was pretty darn creepy when those creatures screeched and ran up to the hotel room.
My fave part was the Spanish actor's monologue coupled with the music, whilst we watched a montage of the decline of the town.
From what I understand, it's actually an adaption of 2 seperate Lovecraft tales.
