A load of overhyped shite. I can't believe I wasted £12.99 on it. What the hell does everyone see in it? It's 80 minutes of nothing and a slightly creepy idea at the end. I've seen scarier X Files episodes which is just about what this film amounted to. An X Files episode set in Japan.

The sequels are a lot better. Especially Ring 2 which is vastly superior. Trouble is, after feeling very unhappy with your purchase of the original, you're unlikely to believe me and probably even more unlikely to spend your cash buying another.
I certainly don't think the original film is "shite" though...

I may get it on VHS. They were selling all 3 for £5 each in the same shop but I wasted my cash on a DVD. I could have had the 3 films for £15.

Hopefully you've still got your receipt. My advice is to obtain Ring 2 on dvd instead if at all possible. It's well worth having a widescreen version on dvd. Looking at the franchise, I'd personally rate them like this:
1 - Ring 2 2 - Ring 0 3 - Ring
I think that the first part is the weakest but many folks out there appear to feel differently. Whereas the first film all leads up to that one incredibly chilling moment where the ghost emerges from the television set, Ring 2 is more fastly paced and contains numerous similar shocks or creepy occurences all of the way thru. There's also a couple of very touching scenes (for those who've seen it, I'm especially thinking of that scene where the blood flows across the road calling out the little boy's name).
Ring 2 can actually be watched, enjoyed and understood without watching the original film whereas the Ring 0 prequel is completely incomprehensible or unlikely to be appreciated unless you've seen the first two entries.
So if you can, cite that old chestnut about the dvd you bought being bought for someone as a gift but they had it already and buy Ring 2 instead. I'm sure that you will enjoy it a great deal more. Please let me know your thoughts if you do so, I'd be very intrigued to hear them.
