I won Audition & Deadly Camp with Versus on the way. From what I have seen they are definitely great, Audition is a great flick and Deadly Camp is a stylish homage to the great 80's camp slashers.

I recently just started getting into Japanese horror films and so far I liked the ones I've seen. Battle Royale is the greatest and also Versus, The Deadly Camp and Evil Dead Trap. I just saw one recently called Junk and it was one of the best zombie films I have ever seen. What I like about it is that it's in Japanese and in English. It's very cool.

Shit is a very harsh word to use no matter how tedious you might have personally found it. I normally reserve that for films like House II, Children Of The Living Dead or Queen Of The Damned.

It wasn't that I found it tedious as such, I was waiting quite patiently for something to start happening or for the tension to start building and it never did.
Queen of the Damned was terrible.
House 2 had it's moments though. I remember house 4 being crap.

You guys should look out for one called JU-ON (The Grudge) and it's sequel, JU-ON 2. Lions's Gate Pictures bought the US rights and Sam Raimi will be producing a US remake with the same producer (who also produced the original Ringu). Very creepy.

Battle Royale is awesome. You can see why Quentin Tarentino was influenced by the film maker of that. Kinji Fakasaku I think it was. That movie is a must see.
Versus was stylish, and was i think meant to be perhaps "overly" stylish, but very good nonetheless.
P.S., cool how Tarentino adopted actess Chiaki Kuriyama for the role "Go Go" in KILL BILL. Watch for Chiaki in "Battle Royale". Crazy, crazy.

The problem with pretty much ALL japanese horror films is that they aren't made right. For some reason, The movie Ring sounded like a good premise and it came over to America. This movie was very creepy and it made at least the FIRST night of going to sleep a little uneasy with that bizarre dream sequence but for the most part, it was pretty tame. But then, when I saw the japanese version after the US version, it was far less scary and actually pretty lame. The japanese have some ok ideas but they don't know how to make movies. And japanese people just can't be scary. The Eye was actually pretty neat and actually hit me hard in some scenes. But doesn't leave you with something to think long and hard about.

Great Japanese horror films: I love J-horror. Most Asian horror actually, i think the stuff that's coming out of Korea right now is blowing the rest of the world out of the water(A Tale Of Two Sisters, The Uninvited). Check out: Ringu - the grand daddy of the current asian horror revival. Kwaidan - amazing collection of Japanese ghost stories Uzumaki - if david lynch and tim burton did a film in Japan...also check out the manga for uzumaki Battle Royal is amazing. If only for Beat Takeshi. Kiaro Seance Cure - these three movies are all by the same director with the same basic feeling of hopelessness. amazing. a bit slow paced if you mainly watch american/western films. but give them a chance.

This is one of the most boneheaded, borderline racist things I have ever read. The Japanese "don't know hoe to make movies"? Are you kidding? Akira Kurosawa? He is arguably one of the best directors ever! Without his film Hidden Fortress there would never have been a star wars! I realize it's just the internet, but try to educate yourself before you type.

the quote should read "don't know how to make movies" not "don't know hoe to make movies". sometimes I wanna install a new spelling and grammar program in my brain.
