Given the cheesiness of the original 1958 House on Haunted Hill, a low budget shocker best remembered for producer William Castle's gimmicky offscreen embellishments. So it's not exactly a stunning surprise to find the new horror opus is a slicker and sometimes scarier piece of work, though it's still nothing but a gussied-up B movie. Updated with handsomely gruesome effects, some nasty plot developments and a bunch of deliciously fun over-the-top performances, namely Rush, Kattan and Janssen. The real sour point is the final 15 minutes, when the effects and story take a nose-dive into horror film medicrioty. Regardless, fans of the original Vincent Price camp-fest should enjoy this film but sadly it hasn't recieved a warm genre welcome.
Cast: Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Chris Kattan, Peter Gallagher, Max Perlich, Jeffrey Coombs, Bridgette Wilson. Director: William Malone Rated: R Running Time: 96 Color / 2000

Never seen the original, remake is shite IMO
I'd rate it 2/5. Only getting more than 1/5 because it was fairly creepy near the beginning.
